We held our Seventy-First Charter Dinner at the Alexandra Hotel on 5 November with a very different format, which proved highly enjoyable. Gone were the dances and speeches, to be replaced with an international seven course meal, lubricated by sommelier-chosen wines. Sommelier Eva Franceschi introduced each wine, explaining why it had been chosen to complement particular courses, all adding to the understanding and enjoyment of the evening.
Local young musicians, who had previously been recognised by Rotary, entertained between courses; pianist Ivan Davies and Ruaraidh Poll, jazz saxophonist.
Apart from Lochaber members and guests, we were delighted that Oban President Lachie and Marion Beaton graced our top table.
President Simon Hardiman thanked all who had made the evening possible including indisposed President-Elect Flora McKee, in absentia.
