Rotarians see Danny Mavor off on his big challenge!

On 23 September some Rotarians embraced the opportunity to join start of tetraplegic army veteran Danny Mavor’s attempt to travel 79 miles from Fort William to Inverness in just three days, by the Great Glen Way, using an off-road wheelchair controlled entirely by his chin.

Danny, 41, who served with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in Iraq, was paralysed from the neck down following a motorcycle accident in 2019.

The challenge also raised money for Regain, the charity which supports people living with tetraplegia, helping them rebuild independence after life-changing spinal cord injury.

Danny said the challenge is about more than completing 79 miles. He wants to raise vital funds for other tetraplegics and demonstrate that life after spinal injury can still be ambitious, adventurous and meaningful.

While a few of us waved him off, Rotarian George Bruce, former Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team member, walked with Danny for most of the first day – thanks, George!  We also gave £200.
