Our 75th Charter Night Dinner took place in some style!

Our 75th Charter Dinner on the first of November consolidated the earlier commemoration of our Charter in June.

Unfortunately, President David Mee and Mo were absent but president-elect John stepped up to the mark and held the evening together.

An excellent meal, prepared by the Alexandra Hotel, followed the theme of “Six Nations” with the six tables flying the appropriate flags. The dishes were drawn from each of the Rugby Six Nations. Past-president Paul Brian was again our resident sommelier, presenting a series of wines from the southern hemisphere, no doubt influenced by antipodean wife Helen!

Carys Jones, winner of the premier Scots traditional music award at the Lochaber Music Festival entertained on the clarsach and the speakers were local men and friends, Jamie Miller and Alastair Nicolson.   Jamie is now the chief executive of Scottish Outdoor Education Centres who touched on the current Rotary youth awards theme of ‘Happiness in Nature’.  Alistair, son of late Rotarian Angus and now the area manager of Highlands and Islands Enterprise gave a warmly-received reflection on, “Me and my Dad”.

We were again fortunate in having guests from Oban Rotary and their President, Steven Lowe, gave the toast to Lochaber Rotary.

As is said, “a good night was had by all!”
