Tanya MacDonald is Lochaber Rotary’s Senior Young Musician of the Year. 18-year old Tanya from Invergloy, near Spean Bridge, who leaves Lochaber High School this year to pursue a degree course in Psychology and Sociology at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, topped the charts at the Lochaber-wide competition earlier this year.
Tanya attended Rotary Lunch at the Alexandra Hotel on 28 June to be presented with the winner’s certificate and voucher after giving an outstanding musical performance on her cello and clarinet.
Accompanied by her Mum, Catherine Cameron, on piano, Tanya excelled in her rendition of Camille Saint-Saens’ “Allegro Appassionato” on the cello and followed that with a touching performance of a technically challenging Malcolm Arnold composition “Sonatina” for piano and clarinet.
In his last duty of the year before handing over, President Simon Hardiman thanked Tanya for her very entertaining performance and wished her well luck in her future career. Tanya’s Mum Catherine expressed their thanks to her teachers Clare Sargent and Karen Thomson.
Rotary members responded with loud and appreciative response.
